What Do Room Parents Do?

 

Room Parents play a vital role in creating a strong classroom community by working closely with teachers and the PTA. They help organize events, coordinate volunteers, and support communication throughout the year.

 

Ideally, each classroom pod has two room parents per teacher (four total), allowing responsibilities to be shared and more manageable for everyone.

 

Room Parent responsibilities may include:

  • Communicating with classroom families on behalf of the teacher or PTA

  • Organizing classroom parties (Winter, Valentine’s, and End-of-Year)

  • Coordinating volunteers for classroom needs or events

  • Assisting with Teacher Appreciation Week activities

  • Supporting the teacher with classroom-specific needs or special projects

  • Collaborating with co-Room Parents to divide responsibilities throughout the year


Room Parent Timeline

August – September

  • Sign up to be a Room Parent

  • Attend the Room Parent meeting

  • Connect with co-Room Parents to decide how you’ll communicate (GroupMe, text, email, etc.) and share duties

  • Introduce yourself to your assigned teacher and classroom parents

Throughout the School Year

  • Forward PTA event emails to classroom families

  • Volunteer for Helping Hands (if available)

  • Support your classroom's Fall Fundraiser project (if applicable)

December

  • Assist with organizing and running Winter Parties

January – February

  • Help coordinate and facilitate Valentine’s Parties

March – April

  • Work with fellow Room Parents to plan and host the End-of-Year Celebration

May

  • Support end-of-year classroom activities and wrap-up
