Supporting Every Child’s Journey

 

SAGE (Special and Gifted Education) is a program of Texas PTA that focuses on education, support, and advocacy for students who learn differently. Whether they receive special education services, are part of gifted programs, or simply have unique learning needs.

 

Texas PTA SAGE Mission Statement:

"To promote a climate of inclusion and understanding for children with diverse learning needs through communication, education, and support of families and educators."

 

At Minett, our SAGE program helps ensure that all students feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Whether a child needs enrichment, accommodations, or just a little extra encouragement, SAGE exists to uplift every learner and foster a strong, inclusive community.

What Does the SAGE Chair Do?

Our SAGE Chair helps bring the mission to life by:

  • Promoting awareness and inclusion for students with a variety of learning needs

  • Coordinating events like Diverse Abilities Day, which celebrates differences and encourages empathy

  • Sharing helpful resources with families and educators

  • Supporting collaboration between staff, families, and the PTA

STUDIO MOVIE GRILL SENSORY-FRIENDLY MOVIE SCREENINGS: 

Screenings are shown with the lights on and the volume lowered; children are free to move around, talk, or even dance in the aisles during the movie. The sensory-friendly screenings are free for all attendees and only available at the Box Office. For more information, please visit their website. Upcoming screenings: "SpongeBob Movie" on December 27th, and "Avatar" on January 3rd.

 

DALLAS ZOO LIGHTS SENSORY-FRIENDLY NIGHT: 

Join the Dallas Zoo on January 5th for an adapted Zoo Lights experience. This event typically sells out- to purchase tickets ahead of time, visit this site.

 

SENSORY-FRIENDLY THEATRE PERFORMANCE: 

The Dallas Children's Theater's next sensory-friendly performance will be "The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show" on January 24th at 1:30pm. General production adaptations include leaving the house lights up a few levels higher than a standard performance and reducing the sound level. They also offer a "Quiet Room" for children who need a break and a social story to prepare for your visit (found on their website) Tickets are heavily discounted to $5 per person.
